2024 Wakan Tanka Proof Coin

The coin features a collage of images representing Wakan Tanka, including the sacred tree that joins the earth and sky. Also depicted are a wolf, bear, eagle, and owl all surrounding the personification of the Great Spirit. The wolf, šuŋgmánitu tȟáŋka, represents supernatural powers of organization, wisdom, and cooperation. The bear, Mató, is chief of the underground supernatural forces and masculine in nature in perfect balance to the bison’s feminine nature. The Eagle, waŋblí, is a symbol of what is highest, bravest, strongest, and holiest. The Owl, hiŋháŋ, brings news to medicine men who are able to understand them.
